Archdiocesan Parish Planning Process - New Report
The clustering report of the Central City Catholic Churches, which was presented to parishioners with the weekly bulletin of January 15 and discussed with those who were interested after all the Masses the weekend of January 21-22, is now available here. Blessing of Throats - February 3
On Friday, February 3, the feast day of St. Blaise, persons wishing to have their throats blessed will have an opportunity to do so at the end of each of our daily Masses in the Chapel of Grace at 7:25 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. St. Blaise's protection of those with throat troubles comes from a legend that he healed a young boy who was about to die because he had a fishbone stuck in his throat.
"Christ and Satan" - February 4
The next Morning of Reflection presented by Father Bob Hamm SJ and Father John Henry SJ of the St. Francis Xavier House will take place on Saturday, February 4 beginning at 8:45 a.m. in Ignatian Hall. The morning of prayer, meditation and reflection will conclude with the 12:10 Mass. (Coffee and donuts will be available in Ignatian Hall prior to the program.) We will pray in the tradition of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, reflecting on Christ and Satan: the light and darkness in our lives and how this affects our readiness to turn and choose the way God is drawing us to be and what he is calling us to do. Feel free to invite your friends.
"Anglo Meets Saxon" - February 12
On Sunday, February 12, at 3:00 p.m., the Handel Choir of Baltimore and Chandos Singers, under the direction of Melinda O'Neal, will be pairing choral works by 20th-century British composers Britten and Walton with music by 19th-century German composers Mendelssohn, Rheinberger and Brahms. Our organist Tim Murphy will join the choir to perform Britten's magical cantata on the theme of innocence, Rejoice in the Lamb. Our magnificent and newly renovated organ also will be showcased in Tim's performance of Rheinberger's Organ Sonata No. 4 in A minor, Op. 98. There will be a pre-concert lecture at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Grace by Richard Giarusso of Peabody's Department of Musicology. Tickets ($35/$25/$10) can be purchased through the Handel Choir website (www.handelchoir.org) or by calling 410-366-6544. If you are a parishioner of St. Ignatius, be sure to identify yourself as such since there is a reduced rate for parishioners. Donations for our Loaves & Fishes ministry are welcome.
Fair Trade Coffee, Tea and Cocoa - February 12
On the second Sunday of each month, representatives of the Justice & Peace Committee sell Fair Trade coffee (various blends, whole bean and ground, caffeinated and decaf), tea, cocoa, chocolate bars, extra virgin olive oil, dried cranberries and nuts to support the farmers in Third World countries after the 9:00, 9:30, 10:30 and 6:00 Masses.

Romero Cup - February 19
Benefit Salvadoran Enterprises for Women which empowers women by starting small businesses in El Salvador. Join us on Sunday, February 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hillendale Bowling Center, 1045 Taylor Ave in Towson for a fun time and lots of laughs! Get your team together and email team names and contact information to Kevin Capinpin at Capinpin@usa.net. It was great fun last year. Let’s do it again! $45 per bowler. Fee includes three games of duckpin bowling, shoe rentals, trophies, chances to win door prizes, soda and pizza.
Woodstock Series at St. Ignatius continues on February 20 - "Holiness in Islam"
The Woodstock Lecture Series continues on Monday, February 20 when Father Thomas Michel, S.J. presents “Holiness in Islam”. The presenters in this series are Fellows at the Woodstock Theological Center, an independent, nonprofit institute located at Georgetown University that engages in theological and ethical reflection on topics of social, economic, business, scientific, cultural, religious, and political importance. Fr. Michel is an expert on Muslim-Christian relations who spent 13 years working for the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and has taught in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Turkey. He is the recipient of the International Tschelebi Peace Prize and the Ali Shir Navai Award. He is an author of numerous books including A Christian View of Islam. A reception in Ignatian Hall will follow the presentation. Invite a friend to hear this fascinating talk.
Ash Wednesday - February 22
The Season of Lent begins soon. On Wednesday, February 22, ashes will be distributed at each of the Masses, 7:25 a.m. (chapel), 12:10 p.m. (church) and 5:30 p.m. (chapel). Ash Wednesday is a day of abstinance and fastingOur Friday Night in Lent program will resume on February 24, with Mass at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Stations of the Cross, a simple Lenten supper (soup and salad) and discussion of a relevant topic.
"Scripture and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius" - February 27
All are welcome to join us in the Chapel of Grace for the next presentation in the St. Francis Xavier House lecture series: Father Michael Simone, S.J., Graduate Student in Biblical Studies and Semitic Languages at Johns Hopkins University, will be discussing Scripture and the Spiritual Exercises. A reception in Ignatian Hall will follow the talk.
